The Best Shawarma?

Live in each season as it passes; breathe the air, drink the drink, taste the fruit, and resign yourself to the influences of each.

I don’t know why but I’ve been thinking about shawarma lately.

I’m not really a big fan of this food to be honest. I had a beef shawarma once in Cairo, Egypt. I think that was the first time I tried it.

First impression? I don’t really like it. Never tried any shawarma after that.

When I went to Granada, Spain recently, my tour guide brought me to Muslim Quarter for lunch. She recommended the shawarma to me, which she claimed to be so good.

Not having many options (the rest are all shawarma with different filling), I chose the standard chicken shawarma. And she was absolutely right. The shawarma tasted so yummy that make me simply drool just by thinking about it. And it costs only €3,50.

I wish I could remember the filling used and reproduce the food. All I have is the photo of the restaurant that sell this amazing super yummy shawarma in Granada.

If I could go back to Granada, my wish is to buy heaps of shawarma from Baraka!

Sharing Is Caring

Happiness is not achieved by the conscious pursuit of happiness; it is generally the by-product of other activities.
~Aldous Huxley~

When I was in high school, I told myself that if I did not do well in academics, I would become a chef. Yeah, since I was little, I have passion over cooking. Almost everyday I would leaf through this one big baking book, imagining that I was baking those tasty looking cakes.

During Ramadhan (our fasting month), I never failed to watch cooking shows every day. Then I would bake cookies for Eid. But that was as far as I go at that time.

I started enhancing my cooking skill while in overseas. Cooking all my favorite dishes and learning new recipes. But this hobby also made realize something.

I love cooking and baking for other people, but not for myself.

When I made something for myself, I don’t feel much joy. As long as the food is edible, I’m okay with it. However, if I were to cook for other people, I would put 100% into my cooking, and make sure that the end product is at the acceptable quality.

I feel really content if people love eating my food. I would not mind cooking for others if they are happy with it. What I’m looking for is the satisfaction in providing good food to other people.

This year, I hardly cook anything special because I’m living all by myself. But once in a while, I do bake something to share with my friends in the boarding house.

Now I can’t wait to go back to Malaysia for Ramadhan because my hands are craving to cook and bake for my family!
